Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
