Presence
Steven Soderbergh tests his film-making abilities in this nifty supernatural story filmed completely through the eyes of the phantom. When a household featuring mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe settles into their fresh home, the camera – AKA the Presence – tracks their movements. This is an entertaining concept that remains concise, including a revelation you might not see coming. October 11th, multiple showings, the Sky channel

The Black Phone
The director's contained scarefest stands strong despite the lack of a continuation. Located in the late 70s in Denver, multiple disappearances has rendered the local kids frightened. When Finney gets captured by the villain and imprisoned in a basement, he dreads the worst. Yet the non-functional line mounted nearby continues to ring, with spooky callers providing assistance, while the prophetic visions of his sister Gwen could save him. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, late evening, the Film4 channel
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between faith and wealth, the winner is obvious for materialism in Michael Showalter's delightfully tacky film adaptation of the disgraced religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Garfield plays the venal Jim, who declares at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple begin profiting from the American public's religious faith. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, yet Chastain succeeds to show Tammy Faye with compassion. October 14th, early morning, the Film4 channel
